The six day 300 person Big Battlefields Bike Ride 2013 from Paris to London, via Compiegne, Amiens, Le Touquet, Calais and Chatham, organised by the British charity Help for Heroes (H4H). The bike ride started from Les Invalides in Paris on Tuesday 28th May, where it was officially launched by the Military Governor of Paris and the Duchess of Cornwall, and ended via the Mall at Horse Guards Parade in London on Sunday 2nd June, having met other cyclists at Blackheath to become the Hero Ride with a total of 1,500 riders. The Hero Ride raised over £1 million for the war wounded, and other donations, prompted in part by the tragic killing of drummer Lee Rigby, amounted to a further £1 million. The Hero Ride was launched by their Royal Highnesses the Duke of Cambridge and Prince Harry at the H4H Tedworth Recovery Centre, following a visit by Prime Minister David Cameron. Participants in the Hero Ride included the H4H founders Bryn and Emma Parry, Tour de France hero Mark Cavendish, Paralympic athlete and former soldier Jon-Allan Butterworth, burns victim from 4 Para Jamie Hull, Page 3 girl Lacey Banghard, and 150 wounded veterans. Help for Heroes has pledged to support the war wounded, and their families, now and as they grow old and will be there for life.
