A visit by the French group of the European Boxwood and Topiary Society (EBTS) to the Château du Champ de Bataille close to Le Neubourg in the Eure Department of Upper Normandy, France. Organised by the president of the group, Patrick Salembier, the event included a night time candle-lit inspection of the château and a guided tour of the château and garden with Jacques Garcia. Château du Champ de Bataille takes its name from the battle fought by Eric le Danois against Guillaume Longue Epée in AD 935 and was originally built for the Maréchal de Crequi in 1653-1665, when he was exiled from the French Court by Cardinal Mazarin. For a long period the château was in the ownership of the Harcourt family, and was bought by Jacques Garcia in 1992. Since purchasing the property, Jacques Garcia has totally restored the château and has created an enormous French formal garden, resembling the gardens to the Palace of Versailles. Jacques Garcia is a French architect, interior designer and landscape gardener. Born in 1947, he had a talent for drawing and a fascination for Objets d'Art from an early age, and is now an important international architect, designer, collector and expert on royal art and furniture dispersed following the French Revolution.
