At approximately 6.30pm on Monday 15th April Notre-Dame de Paris, the principal cathedral in Paris caught fire. It was thought to have arisen due to an electrical fault in a lift installed to undertake repair works. It was thought to have arisen due to an electrical fault in a lift installed to undertake repair works. The whole of the roof was burned and it was feared that the entire cathedral would be destroyed. The fire was however brought under control by around 400 firefighters, just in time to avoid complete collapse. President Macron has vowed to have the building fully restored within five years. Almost immediately, huge sums were pledged for the restoration works, including donations from Francois Pinault, Bernard Arnault, L'Oréal, and French Oil Company Total. Monday 15th April.
