The Duchess of Corwall launches the six day Big Battlefields Bike Ride organised by the charity Help for Heroes (H4H) starting at Les Invalides, Paris (Tuesday 28th May 2013), ending at Horse Guards Parade, London (Sunday 2nd June 2013), via Compiegne, Amiens, Le Touquet, Calais and Chatham. 300 cyclists rode from Paris to London where they were joined, at Blackheath, by the Hero Ride consisting of a further 1,000 cyclists, to conclude with a parade through London and down the Mall to Horse Guards. The bike ride raised over £1 million for the war wounded. Additional donations, prompted in part by the killing of Drummer Lee Rigby, amounted to a further £1 million. The Hero Ride was launched by their Royal Highnesses the Duke of Cambridge and Prince Harry at the H4H Tedworth House Recovery Centre, following a visit by Prime Minister David Cameron. Participants in the Hero Ride included H4H Founders Bryn and Emma Parry, Tour de France hero Mark Cavendish, Paralympic athlete and former soldier Jon-Allan Butterworth, singer and ex Army officer James Blunt, burns victim from 4 Para Jamie Hull, Page Three girl Lacey Banghard, and 150 wounded veterans.
