Sarah Evans, wounded American service woman at the war memorial at Thiepval, with the names of 72,191 British and South African men who died in the battles of the Somme, on the second day of the Help the Heroes Big Battlefields Bike Ride from Paris to London. The second day started from Compiegne, with a stop at a war cemetary near Vignemont, followed by lunch at the CWGC cemetary in Carnoy, to the north of the River Somme in Picardie, close to where the British and French lines met in the First World War. The next ten miles followed the British front line as it was on 1st July 1916, including a stop at the Lochnagar Mine Crator, before a wreath laying ceremoney at the Thiepval war memorial designd by Edwin Lutyens.
