Help for Heroes Bike Ride21.jpg
The fourth day of the Help for Heroes Big Battlefields Bike Ride fromParis to London. The day commenced from Le Touquet and proceeded to Etaples, which had been home to the British Army's largest training camp during the Second World War, as well as having military prisons and hospitals. Here, in the War Cemetary at Etaples, in front of a memorial designed by Edwin Lutyens, a wreath laying ceremony was conducted. Lunch was taken just north of Boulogne, beside the Canadian Military Cemetery where Lt. Col. John McCrae was buried and a second wreath laying ceremony was held. Finally, before arriving at Calais, there was a visit to Mimoyecques, an old quarry from which the Germans created a substantial subterranean base, to house their V3 rocket, with which they hoped to destroy London.
